Susan has been a registered massage therapist since 2012. She has extensive experience working with people through all stages of cancer treatment and beyond and is Vodder-certified in manual lymph drainage and combined decongestive therapy. In 2021, she completed a master's degree in inter-professional pain management from Western University.

Swedish Massage Therapy

Swedish massage is the gentle manipulation of the soft tissue and joints of the body. It can help:

alleviate muscle tension & aches
reduce stress & improve sleep
increase range of motion and ease of movement
lessen pain

Combined Decongestive Therapy & Manual Lymph Drainage

Combined or complex decongestive therapy (CDT) is the gold standard for managing lymphedema. It consists of four pillars:

a) manual lymph drainage (MLD)

b) compression bandaging and compression garments

c) exercises

d) skin care

Manual lymph drainage is a slow and gentle form of massage that stimulates the lymphatic system to help reduce swelling. It can be beneficial for people with:

primary or secondary lymphedema
lipedema
post-operative swelling
acute-injury swelling

Susan is an ADP Authorizer for lymphedema compression garments.

Cancer Care

Going through treatment for cancer can be exhausting, stressful, and may create some unpleasant side effects. Massage therapy has been proven to help alleviate complications related to cancer treatment, including:

reduce post-operative scar tissue
address cording (axillary web syndrome), seromas
improve range of motion and feelings of tightness or pulling
soften radiation fibrosis
lessen nausea, fatigue, anxiety
improve sleep and promote an overall feeling of wellness
